Ad policy and advertiser terms
Last updated 30 September 2026.
Ember is a trading name of Benjamin Fowler, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. Contact: ads@e-mbr.uk.
1. Who can advertise
- Real businesses and sole traders. We check your business before you can bid.
- You must be 18 or over and allowed to act for the business.
- One advertiser account per business. Keep your details up to date. Changing them sends your account back for checking.
2. What your ad must be
- Legal in the UK, and in line with the UK Code of Non-broadcast Advertising (the CAP Code). Ads must be legal, decent, honest and truthful.
- Clear about who you are. Your business name is shown on every ad.
- A video of up to 60 seconds, portrait (9:16) is best. A headline of up to 60 characters, an optional extra line of up to 120, and a link starting https://.
- The link must go to your own site, and to what the ad is about.
- You must own, or have permission for, everything in it: music, footage, logos and people.
3. Not allowed
- Gambling, betting, lotteries and prize draws
- Crypto, trading, investments, "get rich quick" and loans or debt help
- Alcohol, tobacco, vapes and nicotine products
- Drugs, prescription medicines and "legal highs"
- Weight-loss claims, cosmetic surgery, and health claims you cannot prove
- Dating and adult content, or anything sexual
- Weapons, ammunition and fireworks
- Political and campaigning ads
- Anything misleading, hateful, shocking, or that copies another brand
We may refuse or remove any ad, at any time, even if it is not on this list. If we remove an ad that has not run yet, you are not charged for it.
4. Two ways to buy
Rolling ads. Choose categories (or all of them) and a budget. Your ad runs whenever there is an ad space in those categories, until the budget is used. You pay a fixed price per 1,000 views, shown before you buy. A view is charged after 2 seconds on screen, once per person per hour. You can pause any time. Unspent budget can be refunded or moved to another campaign - email us.
Hourly slots. Bid for one category and one hour. Slot winners are shown before rolling ads. The auction works as below.
How the auction works
- Each slot is one hour in one category, UK time. Three ads win each slot.
- You bid the most you are willing to pay. Bids are sealed: nobody sees anyone else's.
- Bidding closes 48 hours before the hour starts. The three highest bids win. Equal bids go to whoever bid first.
- Winners pay the highest losing bid, or the slot's minimum if there are not enough bids. Never more than their own maximum.
- Your ad must be approved by the time bidding closes. If it is not, your bid does not count.
- You can change or withdraw a bid until bidding closes. After that, a winning bid is a booking you have agreed to pay for.
5. Paying
- Hourly slots: we email an invoice when you win. Pay it before the hour starts. Unpaid bookings do not run, and the slot is not offered again.
- Rolling ads: paid up front. We email an invoice when you create the campaign, and it starts once paid.
- Prices are in pounds sterling.
- Card payment is coming soon.
6. What you get
- Your ad plays between videos in the category you booked, during that hour, marked "Sponsored".
- We do not promise a number of views. Audience figures before you bid are past averages, not a forecast.
- Results count a view after 2 seconds on screen, and a click when someone taps Learn more. Each person counts once per booking.
- If Ember is down for a large part of your hour, tell us within 7 days and we will credit or refund you for it.
- Once a paid hour has run, it is not refundable.
7. Privacy
We never show advertisers who watched an ad, and we never follow people off Ember. You see totals only. Ads are chosen by category and hour, never by personal details. See our privacy policy.
8. Responsibility
- You are responsible for your ad and the page it links to. If someone makes a claim against Ember because of your ad, you cover it.
- Ember is not responsible for lost profits or business. Our total liability for a booking is what you paid for it. Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit.
- We may suspend an advertiser who breaks this policy.
9. Changes and law
We may update this page. Changes do not affect bookings already made. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
